1. About Search

1.1 About Searching

When conducting a search for materials in the entire Main Library Collection, two types of searches can be performed.

1.1.1 Search for materials in the entire Main Library Collection:
From the main screen of the Main Library Collection, a search across the entire collection can be initiated.
-    Free word search: Entering keywords in the search box labeled "Enter keyword" enables searching across all data fields of each content.

1.1.2 Search for materials within each collection:
On the page of each collection, the search can be narrowed down to the contents within that specific collection or criteria can be specified for the search.
-    Free word search: Entering keywords in the search box labeled "Enter keyword" enables searching across all data fields of each content.
-    Advanced search: Specifying criteria for the search, such as title, author name, year, etc., is possible.

1.2 Entering keywords

-    AND Search: When conducting a search with multiple keywords, please enter the keywords separated by spaces. The results will display materials that contain all of the entered keywords.
-    OR Search: OR search is not supported.
-    Phrase Search: When you want search results that exactly match a keyword, please enclose the keyword in "double quotation marks."
-    Case Sensitivity: There is no distinction between uppercase and lowercase letters.
-    Full/half-width characters: There is no distinction between full- and harf-width characters.
-    Kanji Dictionary: This portal uses "Kanji Unification Index" from National Institute of Informatics (with the cooperation of Mr. Yasunori Wakayama from the former Reitaku University), which supports searching for variant characters.

1.3 Sub-collection, subject classification list

-    Each collection is divided into "sub-collections" based on the type of materials, their history, features, etc., and in some cases, further subdivided into lower-level collections. By clicking on the names of sub-collections or lower-level collections, a list of relevant materials will be displayed. In Addition, explanations of sub-collections can be accessed by clicking on "View Explanation."
-    Materials are assigned classifications representing their respective categories. Clicking on a classification name will display a list of materials given that classification.

1.4 Facets (Narrow down searching)

The search results can be narrowed down using various items such as "Image," "Copyright," and "Collection." Checking the square box at the head of each facet item narrows down the search results. Unchecking it releases the filter.

2. About  Exhibition

The “Exhibition” introduces materials based on the theme from all the contents of the Main Library Collection.

3. About Search Results

-    Search results are initially displayed in order of "Relevance" (how well they match the search criteria), but can be sorted by "Title (Ascending/Descending)" or "Year (Ascending/Descending)."
-    The display method of the search results may be switched between “LIST” and “GRID.”
-    The metadata of search results may be exported in "CSV," "JSON," or "refer/BibIX" format.

4. About Image Downloads

-    Each image can be downloaded individually from the viewer's menu.
-    It is also possible to download all images at once. If there is a "Batch download" button below the viewer, please click on it. If there is no button, please inquire from the "Contact" menu on the homepage.
