1. Search
(1) About Search
The Main Library Collection offers two types of search options:
① Search the Entire Main Library Collection
You can search all contents from the main collection top page.
Free keyword search: Enter keywords in the field labeled “Free Keyword.” All metadata fields will be searched.
② Search Within Each Collection
Each collection page allows you to search only within that collection, including by specifying search fields.
- Free keyword search: Searches across all metadata fields in the collection.
- Advanced search: Allows you to specify fields such as title, author name, or year.
(2) Keyword Input Tips
- AND search: Separate multiple keywords with spaces.
- Exact match: Enclose the term in double quotes (e.g., "Natsume Sōseki").
- OR search: Not supported.
- Case sensitivity: Not case-sensitive.
- Full-width / half-width: No distinction.
- Variant characters: Searches support the “Kanji Character Integration Index” by NII.
(3) Subcollections and Classification List
Each collection is divided into subcollections by type or origin. Click on a subcollection name to see the corresponding materials.
Materials are also assigned classifications. Clicking on a classification name displays all associated materials.
(4) Faceted Search (Filtering)
You can filter search results by fields such as “Image availability,” “Copyright status,” or “Collection name.” Check or uncheck boxes to refine or clear filters.
2. Thematic Exhibits
Selected materials are introduced by theme from across the Main Library Collection.
3. Search Results
- Results are initially sorted by relevance but can be sorted by “Title (asc/desc)” or “Year (asc/desc).”
- Display mode can be switched between list view and thumbnail (grid) view.
- If the keyword hits a field other than “Title,” the relevant portion will be highlighted in the bibliographic data.
4. Downloading Images
- You can download individual images using the viewer’s menu.
- If a “Download All” button is shown below the viewer, you can download all images at once. If the button is not visible, please contact us via the “Contact” menu on the top page.
- Some images were created under the “International Collaborative Research Network for Japanese Historical Texts.”
